Castle – close to Dublin

Asked by: Beth

Hi – My partner and I will be spending some time in Ireland for our honeymoon in Fall ‘09.
We are going to be spending about 8 days on a tour, but are going to be adding on a couple of days to explore Dublin. We would like to spend one night in a castle, ideally within a half hour from Dublin.
Any suggestions?

You actually have a couple of options but my number one choice would be Kilkea Castle.(http://kilkeacastle.ie/default.asp?id=1) It’s a bit further than your half an hour from Dublin but I think for a Honeymoon it’s well worth it!

A second option would be Clontarf Castle Hotel which is a bit north of Dublin city but easy enough to get into and out from it.  http://www.clontarfcastle.ie/

Further north from Dublin is the lovely seaside village of Killiney where you will find FitzPatrick Castle Hotel. (http://www.fitzpatrickcastle.com/)

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding and have a wonderful trip to Ireland!

    Safe travels,

    Wendy

Thanks so much for the info, Wendy.
Unfortunately, I contacted Kilkea Castle but they informed me they were only available for private hire for groups. I will check out the other options though!
    Thanks again,
    Beth
