Save Money on Flights to Ireland

Flying to Ireland from just about everywhere has become much cheaper in recent years, with more competition for your business and more flights available.

The obvious advice is to shop around and, if at all possible, be flexible on the dates you will fly.

If you are travelling off-season to Ireland and are flexible with dates, book your flight first, in order to get the best price. Getting good prices on accommodation and car hire will not be difficult during off peak times.

Tips for Finding Bargain Flights

The tips below may not apply to all booking systems, but they certainly apply to some and are worth keeping in mind.

You may need to call airlines directly in some cases, but it is in any case always worth comparing what they offer on the phone with what you can find online.

1. Book Early

I know it's boring advice but the truth is that the later you leave it, the more you will pay.

2. Call Late at Night

Call airlines directly just after midnight to check for flights. Uncomfirmed flight bookings are put back into the system after midnight so previously unavailable flights may reapprear and ticket prices may change.

These may not immediately, or ever, make it to web booking systems.

3. The Magic Day

Check for flights on Wednesdays. This is the day when discounts tend to be first posted.

4. Vary the Query

If you are booking for 2, 3 or more people at the same time and getting only higher priced fares, try searching for one person travelling alone.

It can sometimes be cheaper, if more time consuming, to book each ticket separately.

5. Look out for Code Shares

Find out if the flight is a "code share". You will often find that idential flights (times, departure location etc) are being offered by two or more airlines - this indicates that they are code sharing. Only one of them will actually operate the flight but both sell seats.

Delta and Air Lingus for example often code share on transatlantic flights to Ireland. The airline that will operate the flight will be cheaper, so get quotes from both.
