Located in a small seaside village not far from Larne, this long established hotel is a little dated in parts and not at the luxury end of the market but more than compensates with its friendly welcome, excellent service, good food and great location.
Some of the bedrooms are an odd shape - it's an old building - but they are large and well equipped and furnished if not at the luxury end of the market. The beds are particularly comfortable, all rooms have private bathrooms and large flat screen TVs mounted on the walls.
The hotel incorporates an old Castle, although much of it is more modern, so for real athmosphere be sure to ask for a room in the tower.
There is a lovely garden outside, which in Summer is a riot of colours and delightful scents from the old roses, and there are great views over Ballygally beach. The staff are exceptionally friendly, really warm and with a genuine smile for each guest.
The restaurant is popular with locals and often very busy, and you can see why as the food is extremely good. It is equally so in the bar where a lighter menu is available all day.
Oh, and look out for the ghost.....!
