Killyleagh, Co Down

This excellent guesthouse is very well located in the shadow of Ireland's oldest inhabited castle in the pretty village of Killyleagh on the shores of Strangford Lough.

The building has an intesting history, starting life as a Coaching Inn in the early 19ty centruy, later serving as a bank (the strong room doors are still in place!) and now wonderfully restored to its original function but with every modern comfort.

Bedrooms are large, comfortable and welcoming, with good bathrooms, comfy beds with excellent linen and duvets and a very "country house" feel. Downstaris there is a lovely sitting room for guests, complete with wood burning stove, large squashy sofas and an adjacent well stocked library.

Add to all this a terrific breakfast, a genuinely warm welcome, helpful and friendly service and the result is a real gem - remarkable value and a place you will want to return to again and again.

Stayed for a long weekend and had the most wonderful time. Leontine Haines (the owner) went out of her way to be accommodating and introduced us to many of her lovely friends in the village. The Inn is perfectly situated for travel around the east coast (we took the Scenic Route to the Giant's Causeway on one day) and also for excellent dining in the Dufferin Arms (pub/restaurant) next door. Great craic! The Inn itself was a home away from home - so very comfortable and welcoming.

We stayed for a weekend as a base for visiting relatives and found it to be a lovely place to stay. Leontine was very welcoming and made you feel at home and everywhere was spotlessly clean. The Ulster fry was beautiful and we will definitely be back again.
