An old railway station in Co Meath has been beautifully renovated to provide exceptional accommodation and facilities at the Station House. Outside there are beautifully tended gardens and inside all is tasteful luxury, with lovely furniture and fabrics and great colour schemes giving it a very restful ambiance.
The bedrooms are large and very well decorated and have excellent bathrooms. Comfort is to the fore and the beds are large with excellent linen and big squashy pillows.
Railway enthusiasts especially will enjoy a stay in the Signal Suite, formerly the station's signal box, now with a downstairs living room and upstairs bedroom that are small but perfectly formed.
The Signal Restaurant has long been a favourite not just with those living in the locality but with a regular clientele who make the journey from Dublin. It's not surprising, it's a relaxed place with consistently excellent food, mixing traditional restaurant favourites with more modern cooking.
There is also a busy bar where al fresco drinks can be enjoyed on a surely unique patio - it is actually the station platform!
Book the restaurant ahead if you are staying at the weekend. The Station House is a popular venue for weddings and conferences and staying there while there is an event on can be a bit noisy, so check this in advance too.
There are very good special offers available from time to time - especially off season - and as the hotel is pretty competitively priced anyway for a place of its standard these are really very good value.
