So, what's Ireland like? Mmmm.
While few still believe they will find a place where people live in thatched cottages and travel by donkey and cart, many visitors do expect to arrive in an Ireland that, sadly in some respects, happily in others, no longer exists.
Ireland is now a wealthy nation, a recent change after years of barely making it. Both the relative poverty of the past and the sudden rush into serious money have had their effects on the fabric of the country and on every aspect of the life in Ireland today.
So, here goes with a sort of run down of what's happening here and "what Ireland's like" which may give you a flavour. This is all subject to change of course and we are likely to revisit these pages fairly regularly.
How Ireland Looks
It's green, rural, quiet and unspoiled, right?
Well, yes and no. Ireland has undergone rapid change and development in the last decade and it has had a significant effect on the landscape, not all of it for the better.
Getting Around
The years that Ireland spent in the economic doldrums have left it with a legacy of poor infrastructure, and nowhere is this more obvious that in its transport links. Things are changing - but there is still a long way to go.

There has long been a tradition of home ownership in Ireland, but nobody foresaw the explosion of house building that took place over the last 12 years. Prices soared, it seemed that no matter how many houses were built it was never enough. That's starting to change now.
