Connemara ponies are a favourite all over the world, and it’s not surprising, they are well-mannered, versatile and very beautiful.
There is little to beat riding them over their home territory, through the fabulous countryside around Errislannan Manor, which in addition to being a riding centre is a stud farm where many prize winning ponies have been bred.

Read MoreI’ll be in Ireland in a couple of weeks, traveling with two friends who have never been there before. We’ll be driving down from the Connemara, through Clare on the way to Dingle, and will probably only have time to visit one area of cliffs.
I can’t decide whether we should go to the Cliffs of Moher (which I have been to before), and although it’s dramatic, it’s also very touristy and built up, or…take them down to the cliffs at Loop Head (where I haven’t been yet) and do the drive around the peninsula.

The biggest event in Ballinasloe’s year is the annual Great October Fair, Ireland’s largest horse fair and probably its oldest.
It’s a mid sized market town which for history buffs is worth detouring to for a visit to the Battle of Aughrim Interpretive Centre.
