Hostel Accommodation in Ireland

Hostels provide no frills accommodation at a bargain basement price and are popular with both young travellers and those on a very tight budget.

There are two main types of Hostel – those which belong to An Oige, the Irish Youth Hostels Association and Independent Hostels which are privately owned.

Standards vary in both, but have risen considerably across the board in recent years.

Accommodation & Facilities

Some Irish hostels provide only dormitory style accommodation, others have family or double/twin rooms, some of which have private bathrooms. These additions have made hostels an increasingly popular choice for families.

Breakfast or other meals are not usually provided, instead guests have access to a shared kitchen where they can prepare their own meals.

All hostels will have laundry facilities and most now have broadband Internet access, some without charge, others at a reasonable hourly rate.

What You Will Pay

Staying in a Hostel can cost as little as €10 – €15 per person per night for dormitory accommodation. Even private rooms rarely cost more than €30 – €40 per night.
