A Visitor's Guide to the Best of Limerick
Limerick is the gateway both to the West and the South West of Ireland, and due to its closeness to Shannon Airport, visitors often end up there on either the first of last day of an Irish Tour.
It's a city that has its problems, but one that has much to offer visitors and is a lively and friendly place to stay.

Touring Tips What to See What's On Travel Info Accommodation
Limerick sometimes gets a bad press, and you are bound to hear someone refer to is as 'stab city', a nickname earned because it has more than its share of violent crime. However this is pretty much completely confined to ongoing feuds between rival elements in the less well off areas of the city and visitors will find it a very safe place with friendly and welcoming people.
King John's CastleThere are two places to see here that should be on the itinerary of every visitor to Ireland, King John's Castle, which has been very nicely restored, and, especially, The Hunt Museum, which houses one of the most fascinating collections of Art and Antiquities to be seen anywhere.
The city is also, famously, home to Frank McCourt of Angela's Ashes fame, and while not all its denizens accept the veracity of the picture of the city in the 1950's as portrayed by him, it is possible still to see some of the places he describes.
