Tips for Short Trips to Ireland

Sometimes people have just a few days in Ireland, fitting a tour in around a conference or some other event or planning a short weekend getaway. It's not much time - but it's time enough to have some fun!

Often short trips like this can be very rushed and far from relaxing. To prevent yourself from needed a vacation to recover from your vacation, do not try to pack too much in. Our advice therefore is that you should pick one location and stick with it, spending some time in a town or city and touring the surrounding region.

Where to visit?

Since you really want to spend a minimum of time traveling simply to arrive and leave, the best places to choose are those relatively close to airports or ports. With several regional airports in Ireland now served by low cost airlines like RyanAir, EasyJet and BMIBaby, this gives you quite a lot of choice.

Stay in an area you fancy seeing anyway and that has a reasonable amount to see, so that you have at least one easy touring day with not too much travel. Then fill any additional days with day trips from that area.

Choosing Accommodation

While your stay is short, staying in the best accommodation you can afford will pay off. You do not want to return home needing a vacation to recover from your vacation and touring during the day is remarkably tiring - you need a comfortable and welcoming base to return to!

Off season it is possible to get very good self-catering accommodation for a short stay in many of the regions covered by these tours. Look especially for cottege rentals, but plan to eat out, all the touring bases we recommend have a great choice of restaurants and bars which serve excellent food.

Whatever standard of accommodation you choose, stay in the same one for your whole trip, moving during such a short stay is not worth the hassle.
