Bargain Roundup: Jan 24th 2009

This is the first in what will be a series of posts published from time to time, with a round up of best deals currently being advertised for people holidaying in Ireland. It’ll be a bit of a hodge podge, but worth checking as it may well include useful stuff for the time you will be in Ireland.

Star Deal – but book it soon!

Bewley’s Hotels have extended their €50 per room per night sale to all bookings made before the end of January for stays before the end of June 2008. At that price it’s almost as cheap as staying in a hostel dorm – and the hotels are high 3 or even 4 star standard.

Their Ballsbridge hotel in particular is very well located for visiting Dublin and both it and the hotel in Leopardstown are well served by public transport and are on the route of the Aircoach buses direct from Dublin airport. Both hotels have free broadband internet access.

Whites Hotel Wexford

Until the end of March 2008 Whites Hotel is offering a midweek rate of just €69 per person for bed, breakfast and dinner with an extra night B&B for €20 – so that’s 2 nights and one dinner in this recently renovated 4 star hotel for a bargain €89.

The price includes full access to their (excellent) leisure facilities and free parking.  This offer is only available for telephone bookings (053 9122311).

One (not just) for the Golfers

Ballykisteen Hotel, in Co Tipperary, is offering a 2 night package which includes bed and breakfast with dinner on one night PLUS a round of golf on their championship course and a €30 spa voucher. The package price is €119 per person midweek or €139 at weekends.

Affordable Old style Luxury in Killarney

The Malton Hotel is the new name for the former Great Southern Hotel, which has been a very popular place to stay in Killarney for generations, for more than 150 years in fact.

It has had a modern make over to its facilities, but is still a wonderful old building, right in the heart of town and convenient to Muckross and the Ring of Kerry. While rated 3 star, the Malton punches well above the norm for that class.

Castle Bargains

Dromoland Castle and Ashford Castle are two of the most luxurious 5 star hotels in Ireland, both in historic buildings and with fabulous grounds and facilities. Normally they are very expensive and only a realistic option for those with serious budgets, but if you are in Ireland before the end of March you can stay in both of them for little more than the cost of a decent B&B.

This is the deal: book a two night bed and breakfast stay in either hotel, at a cost of €175 per person, and you get a free night’s bed and breakfast  at the other castle. That’s about €58 per night for a really very special treat.  Availablity is limited so you’d need to book fast.
