Strong Man Competition IrelandThe 2010 Republic Of Ireland Strongest Man Competition is part of a large truck show that takes place annually at Portlaoise Rugby Club.

Those in search of the crown take part in 5 tests of strength, which include truck pulling, car lifting and something called “Pythagoras Atlas Stones Test”, whatever that is.

Expect lots of very large men and much grunting – fun to watch if not to participate in!

There are a number of competitions for trucks that, to be honest, I can’t quite figure out, but there will be plenty of them there so if you enjoy looking at trucks, this is the place to be. In addition there are safety displays, an exhibition of model trucks, food and craft stalls, bouncy castles and the like to keep the kids amused and Real Live Cowboys. No, I don’t know how the cowboys snuck in there or what they will be doing .

I’ve never been to this event but it sounds like a huge amount of fun and definitely a different way to spend a day.

The event is held in aid of Downs Syndrome Ireland, an excellent cause and well worth supporting.
