A long running ‘festival of writing’ that has been held in Bangor in Co Down for over 25 years, this event hosts a series of varied events over a full week. Bangor is situated at the head of the Ards Peninsula, a great touring route, so it would be easy to combine touring the region with picking up an event or two at the featival.
The festival embraces writing in all its forms – from poetry to history, journalism to crime, songwriting to comedy and pretty much anything else you can think of. There are events for writers, readers and both, from workshops and readings, tours, concerts and exhibitions, to book launches and a good programme of child-friendly family events.
Many events take place in the grounds of Bangor Castle, more a mansion than a castle really, built in Victorian times in a Elizabethan-Jacobean style and now housing local authority offices. It’s a lovely setting though, with magnificent gardens.
