Doolin is magical and many well known literary figures spent time there, including J.M. Synge, George Bernard Shaw, Dylan Thomas, Augustus John and Oliver St. John Gogarty. Lofty company indeed. It’s also a very beautiful part of Ireland worth a visit at anytime but if you love books and writing then the combination of event and location is unbeatable.
Aimed at everyone from established authors to aspiring writers as well as literary fans there is a strong practical element with a focus on fiction and poetry workshops, but also readings, music and social events with a literary twist.
The annual short story and poetry prizes are highly regarded (with decent prize funds and opportunities for publication) and attract strong entries every year.
As with anything that happens in Doolin there is a very convivial athmosphere and lots of mixing and networking and it’s a very popular event with members of writing groups.
