All year round the Narnia Trail at Belvedere is a fabulous place for kids. The parkland at the estate is remarkably like the world described in the Narnia books, with hills and hollows, woods and follies. The Belvedere coat of arms includes a rampant Lion and the lion can be seen on the the terraces of the House and at the entry into the walled Garden.
The Narnia Trail which weaves through ancient woodland and features places with which Naria fans will be familiar – The Beaver Dam, the Stone Table, the White Witch’s Castle and Camp and Cair Paravel where the royal Thrones and Aslan await.
Green Santa is already a Christmas tradition in many families and is possibly the most magical Christmas event in Ireland.
Santa arrives at Belvedere House by boat across Lough Ennell and then proceeds to his magical grotto beyond the Wardrobe in the frozen land of Narnia. Children enter through the enchanted Wardrobe and travel the Narnia Trail to visit him.
The ‘Green’ in the title refers partly to Santa’s clothes – he is dressed as was the Victorian custom in green – and also to the experience itself. Instead of getting toys children help Santa to plant holly or fir trees, which they then can take home. Each child also goes home with a Wildflower seed shaker (to attract fairies and butterflies into their garden) and a Victorian Candy Cane.
The house, which is open to the public, will also be decorated in Victorian style and if there is snow…. well, that will be a bonus!
