If you’ve never experienced the controlled madness that is the sport of Irish road bowling going to this event is a great place to see its greatest exponents in action. This sport is popular mainly in Counties Armagh and Cork, and that’s where most participants will hail from. It’s the highlight of the annual calender where the winners of county champoinships in all grades meet to determine who wins the the overall national title.
There are sixteen road bowling champion grades competed for every year, from veterans (over 50) to under 12s, with competitions for both men and women. Large crowds follow each match along country roads, where participants compete get their bowl over the course in the minimum number of throws.
