Leenane is situated on the edge of Killary Harbour and surrounded by mountains in all directions, so there could hardly be a more perfect place to have a festival dedicated to walking.
There are walks to suit everyone, with low level, medium and hard walks offered each day many of them guided – you’ll discover a lot about Connemara as you go and meet a lot of people too. Some walks are themed – there is one that follows a famine trail, another that is built around the native herbs and plants of the region.
This part of Ireland is rich in archeological remains, and talks held as part of the festival will fill you in on what you’ve seen while walking.
Everyone can join in, if you enjoy walking but don’t have much time you can just join in for one afternoon – there are even special family walks.
As well as the walking events, there is an Arts & Crafts Exhibition, a barbeque, a family fun day and lots of entertainment locally in the evenings.
Date and details for 2024 subject to confirmation.
