Since its beginnings in 2007 this festival has grown from a two day event to a four day one and from temporary screens in small rooms to a full sized cinema screen, with Dolby Sound while retaining its focus on independent filmmakers and short films.
Filmmakers from across Ireland, UK, France, Germany, Holland and as far as Canada and USA regularly attend the festival.
Waterford film festival concentrates on short films with a very diverse programme of screenings, ranging from drama, comedy, documentaries and animation to experimental and student work.
There is a strong emphasis on young film makers, and Irish film makers in particular and the annual Short Screenplay and Best Short competitions has decent cash prizes for the winners.
Waterford is a city that enjoys a good time and is good at festivals, so you can expect local pubs and hotels to rise to the occasion and have special events and deals available thoughout the weekend.
