Hello, I'm trying to identify a town or district from 1665 in County Armagh. It was listed on the Hearth Money Rolls as Ballynegirne or BallynGirney. Do you recognize these names? Thanks for your help.
Did nuns teach children in Irish villages during the early 20th century?
Hello, we are planning a Christmas trip to Ireland with our four grown kids (mid 20s). We are booked in Dublin from Dec. 24-Dec. 30, but then my husband and I would like to stay until Jan. 1 and see something outside of Dublin. Would the Cliffs of Moher be a risky bet that time of year? We'd also enjoy the Jameson tour near Cork. If we do that, where should we go for New Year's? Should we fly out
Hi, Thank you for this site. It has been helpful! We are arriving in Shannon on this Thursday night. We plan to follow your Burren journey. Not sure if we will make it a one or 2 day journey. Then I was thinking of staying at Cois-Na-Sionna and taking the Shannon ferry in the morning going on to either the Dingle Penninsula or or Ring of Kerry. I'm not sure where to stay Sunday night. Monday we plan to drive to Dublin
At several different pubs in the north-west of Ireland we were told it is illegal for them to serve food after 9pm. What is the reason for this? Does it have to do with restaurant licensing?
If, hypothetically, a young American man were interested in the humble endeavor of sheep herding in rural Ireland, but didn't really have any pertinent experience, what's the likelihood that he could find a kindly shepherd to apprentice under?
We will be traveling with a group tour and spending several days in Galway. One day is designated as a "free" day, and my husband and I are interested in seeing the nature of The Burren more than the man-made sights. Where can we go to best see the geology and wildflowers?
Which stadium is the GAA championship played?
Hello, There are many reviews on car rentals from Dublin airport, both good and bad, mostly bad. Do you have an opinion on which is the best company? Regards, Paul
I'm a student from dublin and would like to take two or three days off to explore and enjoy some truely unique irish spots, not the typical, The Burren, Cliff of Moher spots, the more local gems that you never really hear about. Mainly looking for a hostel/b&b where music and characters are plentiful. Don't have a car and will probably be going it alone, but well able to use these two legs!=D If anyone has any suggestions/ recommendations from where
Hello everybody! My husband and I are going to Ireland at the end of the month (very spur of the moment), and we are clueless!! I would really appreciate any advice people can give us on how to break down our trip. We get into Shannon Saturday (10/29) and leave from Shannon on Sunday morning (11/6). We are renting a car, so we'll have transportation. The only thing we really know we want to see is Dublin. We are completely unfamiliar with
Can anyone please tell me if its possible to drive from Co Leitrim to the Giants Causeway and back in one day. ??? If not, is there a quicker way, ie, by flying or train. Thank you all very much.
During our trip in May next year, my wife really wants to see puffins. I've read that they can be found on some of the islands in the south and west, but not sure she can stand a rough ferry trip. Are there places on the coast perhaps where puffins can be seen that time of year? Are some island trips easier on landlubbers than others?
I'm way the pros and cons of accommodations in Dublin proper or getting a hotel in, say, Dun Laoghaire, and commuting into town. I've read Dublin traffic and parking are a nightmare, but would like to know more about public transportation. Also, we are planning a day trip, by air, to Liverpool, so maybe closer to the airport is better. Any thoughts?
We want to experience horse racing while in Ireland in May 2012. Has racing season started by then? And can anyone recommend good race courses in the south or west?
I want to do one of the Beatles tours in Liverpool, thinking we could get a cheap flight on Ryanair, spend the day, then fly back to Dublin. Any thoughts on that? FYI, the ferry is out! Some of us don't do well on the sea. ;-) Thanks!
