Castle – close to Dublin

February 9, 2009

Hi – My partner and I will be spending some time in Ireland for our honeymoon in Fall ’09.
We are going to be spending about 8 days on a tour, but are going to be adding on a couple of days to explore Dublin. We would like to spend one night in a castle, ideally within a half hour from Dublin.
Any suggestions?

Thanks so much for the info, Wendy.
Unfortunately, I contacted Kilkea Castle but they informed me they were only available for private hire for groups. I will check out the other options though!
    Thanks again,

You actually have a couple of options but my number one choice would be Kilkea Castle.( It’s a bit further than your half an hour from Dublin but I think for a Honeymoon it’s well worth it!

A second option would be Clontarf Castle Hotel which is a bit north of Dublin city but easy enough to get into and out from it.

Further north from Dublin is the lovely seaside village of Killiney where you will find FitzPatrick Castle Hotel. (

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding and have a wonderful trip to Ireland!

    Safe travels,
