Claddagh ring with Rose

June 16, 2011

Question:

I rececently bought a claddagh ring, or something similar too it. I know claddagh rings holding a heart stand for Friendship, loyalty, and love. But mine isn’t quite normal. Instead of holding a heart with a crown, my claddagh ring holds a rose.

I bought it at a small fair, where each ring was different and there was only one of each, so i wasn’t sure if it had special meaning. So my question is: What does my ring, holding a rose stand for?

I have the same ring and I have been trying to find out the meaning of it for months. One of my friends said that when Ireland was trying to pull away from the UK, they started doing different variations of the Claddagh ring, and one of the different variations was the one with the rose. If you find out more about it, please let me know something!

Sounds like this is just a design thing, a variation on a theme, rather than having any particular meaning. Of course the person who made it or designed it may have intended to convey some meaning, but you’d have to ask them about that.

The Claddagh ring specifically has a heart, so one with a rose isn’t strictly a Claddagh ring, just a nice ring 🙂
