Dublin to Liverpool by air

June 21, 2011

Question:

I want to do one of the Beatles tours in Liverpool, thinking we could get a cheap flight on Ryanair, spend the day, then fly back to Dublin. Any thoughts on that? FYI, the ferry is out! Some of us don’t do well on the sea. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks!

Yes, it’s feasible. A few provisos though.

The airport in Liverpool is a bit of a way from the city centre – it’s a bus and train ride and takes anything from 45 minutes to an hour. And of course you have to allow for travel to and from Dublin Airport also.

In both cases you have to be there quite a bit before the time of your flight, because of needing to check in and clear security etc. Be aware that as a non-EU passport holder, you can’t do the online check in (which speeds things up somewhat) so you do need to allow a decent amount of time in the Airport at each end – I’d say a minimum of an hour before your flight time.

So, if we say half an hour to get to Dublin airport, taking everything into account you are looking at a travel time, from hotel to Liverpool and back, of at least two and half to three hours each way. It’s a fair bit of hassle for very little time in Liverpool.

So I guess it depends on how big a Beatles fan you are ๐Ÿ™‚

Liverpool is a nice city though, so a day there is not a bad idea, if you can take the travel time. Aside from the Beatles tour, the Tate Gallery is well worth a visit.
