Ireland in 8 days. Will this itinerary work?

January 29, 2009

Question:

In advance. Thank you for your help!

My wife and I have a trip planned to Ireland mid March. We fly in and out of Shannon.

Can you please tell me if my itinerary is recommended and doable in this time frame?

Day 1: Land in Shannon early morning

The Burren, Cliffs of Moher….spend the night in Killarney

Day 2: Ring of Kerry (should we do the Ring or the Dingle Peninsula?) Killarney N.P…..night in Killarney

Day 3: Rock of Cashel, Waterford…..night in Kilkenny

Day 4: Kilkenny, Inistioge, anything near, relax…night in Kilkenny

Day 5: Glendalough….night in Dublin

Day 6: Dublin

Day 7: Dublin

Day 8: Newgrange, drive to night in Limerick

Day 9: Fly home

Any changes you would have? Suggestions?

Thanks!!!!!!!

    Jim,

Glad to see that you’ve made it over here to Katherine’s web site!  It’s a great resource and I know you will find loads of invaluable advice.  I won’t answer your question as I’ve already done so on the Frommer’s pages but I do hope that Katherine has a bit of advice for you… or anyone else who visits these pages.  Most folks are really helpful.

Let me just add for anyone reading this that Jim already has his tickets set so they cannot be changed and he’s staying mainly in hotels using points he’s collected (great way to pay for a vacation!) so while he can shift some of his dates around he does have less choice as to the places he can stay in while in Ireland.

Jim, I hope that you are feeling a bit better about your itinerary.  Now if we can only work out just how much driving you think you can do that first day…

    Safe travels,

    Wendy
