Time and Distance Dingle to Sligo

March 21, 2009

Question:

HI,
We are thinking of leaving Dublin via train to Tralee (4hrs?) renting a car to stay in Dingle 3 nights, drive to Galway 3 nights, see the Connemara and Mayo region between Galway and Sligo 5 nights then back to Dublin. would that give us enough time to see most of what is in the region?
thanks

    Garrow,

Why take the train to Tralee when it’s easier to rent a car and drive?  Further, you will more choices for that car rental in Dublin than you will in Kerry.  The you can stop as you like along the way and still make it to Dingle in about 5 hours which is a nice way to travel across Ireland.  If you rent from Dublin airport you won’t have any city driving, just have to naviagate around Dublin on M50 to M7.  Then a straight shot down to Dingle.

Don’t forget, if you mention DoChara when booking your car through Dan Dooley you can get a discount!

Overall,  you should have plenty of time to visit the  areas you listed with the time frame you gave.  Not sure if you really want to spend 5 nights in the Sligo area however.  It’s a bit off the beaten path but I assume you already know that.  It is a lovely area (I prefer Donegal to Sligo) and there’s plenty to keep you going on day trips, even into Northern Ireland, from there.

    Safe travels,

    Wendy
